NOTE TO MY STUDENTS
February 11
Hello again, Yogis and Yoginis,
We have made it through the worst of the bad air, and while it is still Winter, the clean air carries the new energy of a coming Spring.
I am still floating in the air myself from a brilliant weekend of lecture and practice as my teacher, Yogarupa Rod Stryker was in town. Though I did not practice myself, I was deeply moved by the intense focus and transformative energy in the room - so beautiful for me to watch my students push and discover themselves in ways they had not imagined. If you missed working with Rod, you should plan on catching him the next time he is in town - It was truly amazing!
This weekend was not a singular event; it was a seed planted. A seed inviting us to deeper practices and greater transformation. One immediate outcome of the weekend is that I shall soon be starting a book group around Rod's book The Four Desires - Creating a Life of Purpose, Happiness, Prosperity, and Freedom. I know a number of you have this book and have worked with it on your own. I am so excited at the prospect of setting up a structure which will offer not only mutual support from group members, but additional guidance and information on my part. The practice he outlines in the book is a very ancient and time-tested method of self-reflection called vichara which, integrated with meditation and yoga nidra, offers us a process by which we can utterly transform our lives towards our highest capacity. This is one of the more meaningful ways I can think of that yoga goes beyond the physical to make us brighter and more joyful in this life. If you don't know the book, be curious: Go to http://parayoga.com and check it out. (And if you want to go beyond the book, consider joining me in May for a five day intensive in Colorado with Rod Stryker called The Yoga of Fulfillment.)
If you miss this first book group but are interested, I have plans to repeat it in a weekend intensive format, so keep your eyes peeled...
Thank you Yogarupa!
Love to you all,
Mary

Hello all my yogi friends,
As we move through the change of season and the whole natural world retreats inward with Winter, it is a perfect time to cync up with this organic rhythm and do the same in our own lives. If you are ready to drop deeper into that aspect of practice, consider joining me on Fridays at Avenues Yoga, 10:00 - 11:30, or Mondays from 4:00 - 5:30. After a full 65 minutes of physical practice and a nice length for savasana, we will explore a longer sit, drawing from various pranayamas, kriyas, and meditative techniques. I am always available after class to handle questions around sitting, breathing, or meditation.
While all of my classes culminate with meditation, these two classes have a lovely 15 minutes dedicated to this inner journey. If you've never been to Avenues Yoga, it is a gem of a studio, spacious and light - definitely worth checking out. I am also available for private sessions if you'd prefer some one-on-one coaching in the art of meditation.
Finally, I teach a class through the community college that some of you may be intrigued with. Check out the details of Yoga III on my Teacher Training page (You don't need to want to teach to join us!). It's an amazing journey!
Namaste
Peace, peace, peace ~
